Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Researcher to join our team at the BBC Radio Scotland. As a Researcher, you will be responsible for finding and booking exciting contributors, researching topics, and developing programme ideas.
About the Role
This is a 6-month Fixed Term Contract based in Glasgow. The ideal candidate will have a passion for news and topical stories, good knowledge of speech radio output, and strong journalistic skills. You will be working on our flagship programme, Mornings with Kaye Adams and Stephen Jardine, which broadcasts Monday-Friday from 09:00-12:00.
Main Responsibilities
- Finding, booking, and briefing diverse contributors
- Researching topics, fact-checking, and writing accurate briefing notes under time constraints
- Developing and pitching programme/content ideas to producers
- Providing support in the studio for live programmes, working alongside the studio producer and manager
- Working on forward planning content, booking big name guests, and long-term features
Requirements
- Passion for news and topical stories, consuming news across different platforms and keeping up-to-date with current affairs
- Good knowledge of other speech radio output, particularly competitors
- Strong journalistic skills, thinking creatively about using topical news and contributors
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working in a content production environment
- Knowledge of the target audience, their needs, and expectations
- Effective planning and organising skills, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines, and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities
- Knowledge of the BBC's Editorial Standards and how to apply these across content
Salary and Benefits
The estimated salary range for this role is £25,000 - £29,000 per annum, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The BBC offers a competitive salary package, flexible working hours, 26 days annual leave (1 of which is a corporation day) with the option to buy extra days, a defined pension scheme, and discounted dental, health care, gym membership, and more.
