About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join our team at PA Consulting. As a key member of our defence and security practice, you will be responsible for developing electronic platforms for defence and security applications.

Your expertise in embedded systems will be invaluable in designing solutions at the system level and taking on detailed electronic design work. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects, including defence and security, healthcare, and consumer sectors.

Key Technologies

  • Software Defined Radio
  • Embedded Linux, RTOS, and bare metal applications on custom design platforms
  • Ultra-low power electronics and firmware, including communication technologies such as Cellular, WiFi, BLE, DECT NR+, Zigbee, Sub 1GHz, and NFC
  • Microcontrollers using a range of peripherals, including RTC, SPI, I2C, UART, Crypto Engines, DMA, ADCs, USB, and AI/ML accelerators
  • Microprocessor systems using a range of peripherals

Requirements

  • Well-versed in a breadth of core electronics disciplines, including analogue and digital circuit design, and a deep understanding of embedded systems
  • Excellent understanding of key embedded technologies, including FPGA, high-end CPUs, and SoCs, high-speed communication techniques, and DDRx memory
  • Exposure to the full product lifecycle, from concept generation through to product release, with demonstrable experience of delivering designs into service
  • Good understanding of the regulatory landscape of the UK, EU, and US, and a proven track record of designing for compliance with appropriate standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working with the team to work through challenges from first principles on the bench
