Position Overview:


We are thrilled to present an opportunity for a Senior or Principal Flood Risk Consultant to join our esteemed flood risk and drainage division. This role can be based in various locations, offering the flexibility to work from home as needed to achieve optimal results.

The team engages in a diverse array of significant and challenging infrastructure projects for both private and public entities across multiple development sectors.

Key Responsibilities:


We seek a highly skilled professional to spearhead projects within the flood risk assessment and drainage team at Tetra Tech, supporting planning applications through various activities, including flood risk evaluations, due diligence, drainage strategies, design and modeling, environmental water assessments, and contributions to Environmental Impact Assessments.

Our projects vary in scale, ranging from £10k to £100m, encompassing sectors such as defense, transportation, local government, infrastructure, healthcare, education, commercial, industrial, and residential development.

You will independently and proactively manage technical aspects from project inception, understanding client requirements, through to project delivery and closure, adhering to best practices while receiving support from senior colleagues.


Additionally, you will assist project managers throughout project execution and may take on project management duties for lower-risk initiatives, including client-facing roles as you advance your career.

When appropriate, you will guide, oversee, and mentor junior team members in scheme design and management, collaborating with clients to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery while managing changes effectively.

Projects are conducted across the UK, and occasional travel may be required, including work outside standard office hours.

The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following qualifications:

  • A proactive professional who embraces challenges (essential)

  • Proven experience in executing flood risk projects and assessments to facilitate planning processes
  • Knowledge of UK flood risk policies such as NPPF, SPP, and TAN15
  • Experience in consulting and engaging with key stakeholders (clients, LLFA, EA, water companies)
  • Proficiency in report writing and presenting to both internal and external audiences
  • Expertise in developing drainage strategies, SUDs, and solutions in line with local and national guidelines (e.g., the SuDS Manual)
  • Experience in managing planning application conditions
  • Background in Water Framework Directive assessments
  • Familiarity with advising on flood risk schemes concerning environmental, ecological, and geomorphological aspects
  • Proficiency in Micro Drainage/Info Drainage
  • Competence in IT systems including ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience in preparing fee proposals and supporting large bids
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, eligible for CEng MICE or chartered with CIWEM
  • Chartered status or a commitment to achieving chartership
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating a track record of timely project delivery
  • A commitment to promoting health and safety practices within the workplace and design processes
