Medical Device Engineering Specialist

The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist to join our Clinical Engineering section. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective management of medical devices across the organization, including planning the replacement of medical equipment, technical support for patient safety, device connectivity, research and innovation, asset register management, and the management of external maintenance contracts.
Main Responsibilities- Contribute to plans for the replacement of existing medical equipment and support the business case process for the acquisition of new/additional equipment.
- Understand the clinical requirements in detail and write equipment specifications accordingly.
- Establish what is available commercially.
- Arrange trials and lead on the technical evaluations of equipment.
- Evaluate responses to tenders.
- Manage equipment deployment into clinical service, including the planning of ongoing maintenance provision.
- Support the Trust response to medical equipment related safety alerts.
- Provide engineering advice and support to consultant, clinical, scientific and technical staff on highly complex issues involving medical devices.
- Participate in projects across the organization to fully utilize information/data sources to provide rounded insights into system performance and patient safety risks.
- 1st or 2nd class degree in a relevant subject.
- Masters degree in Medical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council or registration achievable within 12 months.
- Post-graduate qualification related to medical device management.
- Able to prioritize and manage own work.
- Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with common issues within own specialist area of competence.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office.
- Able to develop and manage project plans, maintaining auditable records.
