Role Overview:

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Southampton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers to implement well-structured lessons that capture students' interests and keep them engaged, ensuring that learning objectives are met effectively.
  • Tailor your approach to meet the individual needs of students with autism, ensuring students receive the specific support necessary for their unique learning styles and challenges.
  • Monitor each student's academic and social development closely, offering constructive feedback that helps them understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Be actively involved in supervising and supporting students during break times and extracurricular activities, facilitating positive interactions and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Create an atmosphere where every student feels welcomed, valued, and included, encouraging respectful interactions among students to promote a sense of belonging and community.
  • Work to ensure that the classroom remains a safe, clean, and stimulating environment, filled with resources and materials that inspire learning and exploration.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience as an Autism Teaching Assistant is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of autism and safeguarding.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Show empathy, patience, and understanding when supporting students with autism.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
