Job Description

This role will focus on supporting the capital programme and revenue budget setting processes for Sutton Council only.

  • About the Role:
  • Deliver support to budget managers for core financial processes and activities, including planning and budgets, financial management and monitoring, and year-end processes.
  • Support the Strategic Capital Finance Business Partner in maintaining accurate and useful capital working papers that safeguard financial resources and provide open, transparent governance over capital budgets.
  • Prepare journals, virements, and reserve movements.
  • Assist the Strategic Corporate Finance Business Partner in completing statutory returns or ad hoc requests for information.

About Us: This role is part of the Financial Planning and Business Partnering team that supports Sutton Council only within the shared finance service. The team has 17 positions that combine to deliver revenue and capital financial planning and business partnering services.

We aim to add value and inspire success by translating business intelligence into business success, safeguarding the financial health of our councils, empowering customers to manage their finances, and learning, improving, and exceeding through talent development and achievement.

Your Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Part or fully qualified in relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CIPFA, CIMA, AAT) or equivalent experience operating at that level.
  • Capability to use digital tools and software to deliver effective finance support.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment and achieving successful outcomes in delivering services that meet customer needs.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to provide detailed and accurate information at pace with little oversight.
  • Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing, with the ability to discuss, analyze, and present finance concepts and processes in various ways.
