Research Opportunity

The University of Essex, in partnership with Stourgarden, invites applications for a research position focused on optimizing light and nutrient recipes in controlled environments for growing alliums. This project aims to reduce costs and time through shortened growing cycles and minimized energy use.

This fixed-term position, lasting 20 months, will involve working at the University of Essex and Stourgarden's offices in Colchester. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of new environmental control protocols and collaborate with the Engineering and Software Tech Teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and monitor experiments on onions in a containerized trial facility
  • Perform plant physiology measurements and analyze data to support the companies scale-up agenda
  • Work with the Engineering and Software Tech Teams to integrate plant science with engineering
  • Prepare reports and share findings with senior management and clients
  • Support the Plant R&D Team with farm operations and research delivery

Requirements

  • BSc in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, or similar degrees
  • MSc in Agronomy, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Plant Biotechnology, or equivalent industry experience
  • PhD in Plant Sciences, Biological Sciences, Plant Physiology/Pathology/Biotechnology, or similar

With travel to Stourgarden: Boxted Road, Great Horkesley, Colchester, CO6 4AP
