Sustainability Specialist

Wates is seeking a Sustainability Manager to support the construction team in the Southern region. This role involves working on projects to deliver high-profile, technically complex projects across multiple sectors, while focusing on sustainability and environmental targets.

As a key member of the team, you will drive improvements in resource efficiency, carbon reduction, and biodiversity while achieving high standards of safety, health, and environmental controls. You will work collaboratively with the regional Senior Leadership teams and Project Managers to ensure the sustainability requirements of clients are met.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Spearheading sustainability initiatives across the Southern region, reporting directly to the Sustainability Business Partner.
  • Providing expert guidance on sustainability and environmental practices for projects and bid submissions, ensuring alignment with group ESG targets and commitments.
  • Driving the achievement of sustainability and environmental targets throughout project lifecycles, from preconstruction to construction phases.
  • Establishing and implementing environmental best practices according to industry standards, collaborating closely with design, procurement, delivery, and customer teams, while managing external environmental consultants and providing regular performance tracking and improvement initiatives.

Additionally, you will engage supply chain partners to align with Wates' sustainability strategy and conduct training sessions to enhance regional staff's sustainability and environmental awareness.
