Job Title: Senior Ecologist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Ecologist to join our team. As a Senior Ecologist at MacStaff, you will play a key role in leading ecological projects and working closely with developers, local planning authorities, and landowners across England.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise and support for habitat surveys and protected species assessments.
  • Conduct survey work, including protected species surveying (GCN, Dormice, reptiles, bats).
  • Offer expert advice and guidance on biodiversity conservation and enhancement measures.
  • Work collaboratively with the in-house ecology team to develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain strategies.
  • Prepare and present reports, including Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans and Biodiversity Gain Plans.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of field experience in Ecology.
  • Possession of two or more European Protected Species (EPS) survey licences.
  • Strong botanical knowledge and ability to conduct standardised and replicable surveys.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity legislation, policies, and guidelines.
  • Experience in preparing and implementing Biodiversity Net Gain plans.
  • Strong understanding of ecological principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in planning and biodiversity assessment.
About the Role
