Job Title: Community Emergency Medicine Locum Consultant

This is a locum consultant post at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a colleague with Paediatric ED expertise to work in our Paediatric ED as well as in the main ED Consultant rota.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients attending the Emergency Department in the Denmark Hill site.
  • Play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
  • Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis.
  • Responsible also for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
  • Provide clinical supervision of junior medical practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
  • Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Groups management team.
  • Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Groups Business Plan.
Requirements:
  • Registerable medical qualification
  • Sub specialty accreditation in paediatric emergency care
  • Wide experience in all aspects of Emergency Medicine, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.
  • Specialist training in Emergency Medicine
  • Significant paediatric emergency care experience
  • Experience in day to day organisation of Emergency Medicine services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
Audit & Quality Improvement:
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of Emergency Medicine.
  • Experience of clinical research.
