Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join our Family Support and Protection team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing a complex caseload and providing expert supervision and coaching for colleagues.
About the Role
The Senior Practitioner will work closely with families who have long-term complex issues, providing expert advice and professional supervision to social workers. You will be responsible for assessing complex social care needs and developing support plans for vulnerable individuals and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a complex caseload and provide expert supervision and coaching for colleagues
- Assess complex social care needs and develop support plans for vulnerable individuals and families
- Work within the statutory legal framework, policy, and guidance to determine when the threshold for statutory intervention has been reached
- Participate in case conferences, court attendance, meetings, and statutory reviews, taking the lead when a social care perspective is required
- Conduct assessments and plan responses to safeguard and promote a child's welfare, including appropriate intervention as determined by need
- Build strong, effective working relationships across the Council, with partners, and members of voluntary agencies to help people get the best start in life and age well
Requirements
- A recognised social work qualification, such as a Diploma, degree, or Masters in social work, with current Social Work England registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development, aligned to relevant Professional Competency/Capability frameworks or Knowledge and Skills Statements
- Significant experience of social work, demonstrating a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of all relevant legislation, regulation, and guidance
- Experience of mentoring social work students and newly qualified and experienced social work staff, being a subject matter expert in professional social work practice
- Experience of chairing meetings involving clients, family members, and/or carers and other multi-agency professionals
