Job Overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Staff Nurse to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team at the Mildred Creak Unit, a children's inpatient mental health unit. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mental health nursing and a passion for delivering high-quality care to young people aged 7-14 years old with complex mental health difficulties.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a structured routine for young people, mirroring this, we offer weekly meetings at 2pm, which include nurse-led teaching, group discussion, MDT meetings, monthly team reflective meetings, and a weekly facilitated nurse support meeting. We believe that every interaction with a young person is an opportunity to be therapeutic, and we offer monthly individual supervision to support this.

Main Duties of the Job

The Senior Staff Nurse will be responsible for:

  • Supporting junior nursing staff and encouraging their development
  • Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to young people
  • Developing and implementing individualized care plans that meet the unique needs of each young person
  • Providing education and training to junior staff and other healthcare professionals
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and contributing to the development of policies and procedures

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • NMC Registered Nurse (appropriate to clinical speciality)
  • Relevant nursing qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relating to clinical speciality
  • Knowledge and understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
  • Understanding of Diversity and Inclusion challenges in the workplace
  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrable contribution to advancing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Workplace
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance (risk management, audit, quality)
