Consultant in Haematology
This role is based primarily in laboratory haematology at the John Radcliffe Hospital and involves providing consultative haematology services on the hospital site.
As part of a team of laboratory and transfusion consultants, you will contribute to the development and provision of a high-quality, integrated laboratory haematology service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing routine blood film and bone marrow morphology services;
- Supervising registrars undertaking morphology and responding to the GP email advice line;
- Liaising with clinical teams to ensure best transfusion practice across OUH;
- Contributing to laboratory aspects of registrar training in laboratory haematology;
- Providing routine laboratory support for training doctors on a rotational basis.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians or evidence of equivalent qualification;
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or evidence of equivalent qualification;
- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligibility within six months of interview.
Desirable Qualifications
- PhD/MD with a focus on laboratory haematology, immunophenotyping, or molecular haematology;
- Experience in laboratory haematology across the laboratory-clinical interface, including flow cytometry.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to work in a team, taking personal responsibility and delegating appropriately;
- Basic understanding of healthcare funding streams and commissioning;
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and patients;
- Understanding of clinical governance as applied to laboratory testing and delivery of clinical services.
