About the Role

National Oceanography Centre, Southampton is seeking a highly skilled researcher to join our team in developing novel environmental monitoring capabilities for sustained long-term low-cost tracking of ocean health.

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing, analysing, and interpreting data from marine sensors using the Passive Acoustic Noise Interferometry (PANI) construct, with a view to discerning the distribution of physical parameters through the water column.

This will further the understanding of precursor events in complex climate system settings to accurately inform tipping point dynamics.

About You

We are looking for someone with a PhD degree in ocean acoustics, applied physics, physical oceanography, seismology, or a closely related discipline and experience in processing large geophysical datasets and/or numerical modelling of physical phenomena.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex signals processing techniques, noise interferometry, sound propagation in inhomogeneous media, and coherent signals processing.

Location

This position will be based in Southampton, with the centre well connected by public transport and ample cycle parking available.

The National Oceanography Centre has a hybrid working approach, allowing staff to work from home up to 2 days per week.
