Job Description

Durham University is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Assistant Professor in Ecology, Evolution or Behavioural Ecology. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of internationally excellent research and teaching while allowing you to progress and embed your career in a dynamic and progressive institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pursue high-quality research in the field of ecology, evolution or behavioural ecology, with a focus on producing internationally excellent outcomes.
  • Develop clear plans for securing national and international funding opportunities to support research and end-user engagement.
  • Contribute to teaching and research supervision, and participate in ongoing curriculum development.
  • Enhance the quality of the research environment in the Department, the wider University, and beyond through collaborative research activity.
  • Contribute to administrative work, citizenship, and values of the Department.
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, and engage in related activities such as assessment.
  • Engage in and enhance the values of the Department.
  • Contribute to attracting and supervising research students, and enhance the Department's commitment to its vibrant and inclusive postgraduate culture.
Requirements
  • PhD in Biosciences or a related subject.
  • High-quality research outputs, with some recognized as internationally excellent or world-class.
  • Personal research plan that supports and enhances the Department of Biosciences research strategy.
  • Experience in teaching and research supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable Criteria
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
  • Experience in research leadership and mentoring early career researchers.
  • PhD supervision experience.
  • Research impact beyond the institution.
  • Income generation through successful research projects and grant proposals.
