Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Paediatric Consultant to join our team in the Emergency Department at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide expert care to children presenting with major and minor illnesses and injuries, working across two sites in the Paediatric Emergency Departments.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide Paediatric Care: Have responsibility for paediatric patients presenting with major and minor illness and injury.
  2. Work Across Sites: Work across sites in the Paediatric Emergency Departments.
  3. Continuing Responsibility: Maintain a continuing responsibility for the care of patients and the proper functioning of the Paediatric Emergency Department.
  4. Teaching and Development: Deliver both shop floor and formal teaching for junior medical staff and medical students.
About the Role

The Paediatric Emergency Department team consists of 5 consultant paediatricians, 30 paediatric trained nurses, 2 nursery nurses, 2 play specialists, 3 Paediatric advanced nurse practitioners, and 16 Paediatric registrars. We work in close collaboration with the paediatric team as part of the emergency department team, supported by a dedicated paediatric emergency department rota for consultants, junior doctors, and nurses.

The paediatric emergency department has an active shop floor, formal teaching programs, monthly quality and safety meetings, and a well-established governance structure.

We operate from two main sites, with more than 300,000 people visiting our A&Es annually. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London, with significant paediatric input into providing care for children.
