We are seeking a skilled Physiotherapist to work with our team at Newham University Hospital. As a Band 7 Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of acute respiratory patients, including those requiring ventilation, NIV, Optiflow, and tracheostomies.

Key responsibilities include leading the early rehabilitation of critically unwell patients in ICU, assessing and treating respiratory patients on the wards, and supporting the development of ward-based MDT skills for acute respiratory management. You will also work closely with the growing therapy team, including a head of therapies, clinical leads, a band 8a respiratory clinical specialist, and other physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation support workers.

Main Duties

  • Manage a varied caseload of acute respiratory patients, including those ventilated, on NIV, on Optiflow, and with tracheostomies.
  • Lead the early rehabilitation of critically unwell patients in ICU.
  • Assess and treat respiratory patients on the wards.
  • Support the development of ward-based MDT skills for acute respiratory management.

Person Specification

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Member of the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  • Substantial relevant post-registration experience as a Senior Physiotherapist.
  • Post-registration experience in respiratory physiotherapy for patients with multi-pathologies and complex needs, including ICU and tracheostomy management and weaning.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy in the relevant setting, e.g., ICU, tracheostomy, respiratory, surgery.
  • Specialist clinical skills in emergency and community settings.
  • Understanding and application of risk management.
  • Ability to pass on knowledge and deliver training both internally within the profession and externally to other staff groups.

Other Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group.
  • Ability to work as part of a seven-day rota.
  • Availability to participate in the emergency respiratory on-call rota.
  • Able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day.
