Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor - Commercial Expert

The role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor - Commercial Expert, you'll play a key role in driving commercial value and operational excellence across our business. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, clients, and suppliers/subcontractors to achieve this goal.

Day-to-day, you'll:

  • Provide commercial management and support to Quantity Surveyors as needed for each project/contract, as well as commercial support and expertise to projects responsible for a range of commercial activities (bid governance, reviews, change management, compensation event contractual notices, etc.)
  • Undertake internal compliance, liaising with the relevant Head of Commercial and customers as required, as well as supporting Commercial Managers with all commercial aspects on the project.
  • Gain a full understanding of the head contract terms and conditions and how this flows down to the Subcontract supply chain and proactively ensure contract compliance exists and proposes and monitors correction plans to ensure any non-compliance is eliminated.
  • Construct and deliver a robust procurement project plan that delivers the objectives of the project, ensuring the deadline and budget are met and that the necessary communications and risk mitigations are in place
  • Ensure disallowed costs are at an absolute minimum as well as enhancing and utilising sourcing and tendering processes that meet and exceed project/programme deliverables
  • Manage the post-contract commercial management of subcontracts during project execution phases and mitigating the business exposure to subcontractor claims.
  • Ensure all Supplier/Subcontractor compensation events/claims are adequately justified, rationally explained, and recorded to support potential head contract CE's/variations and sustain audit both externally and internally.

This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements, including 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential Experience:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Building Services Quantity Surveying or have a general degree in Quantity Surveying
  • Significant experience in a Quantity Surveying role
  • Experience in managing business stakeholders to meet milestones and deliverables
  • Good understanding of day-to-day commercial administration in the Engineering and Construction industries
  • Experience in managing multiple projects at any given time
  • Evidence of delivering on accountabilities and driving the commercial agenda
  • Experience in delivering to project commercial strategy, and to delivering on large and complex contracts and bids
  • Experience in supporting large-scale projects and complex change initiatives using appropriate methodologies
  • Excellent NEC3 skills
