Head of Sustainability Job Description

The Talent Partnership is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Sustainability to drive our client's expansion into the sustainability sector. This role will focus on business development, aiming to win new work and establish a dedicated sustainability team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and Implement Sustainability Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of the company's sustainability strategy, aligning with business objectives and industry best practices.
  2. Business Development: Identify and secure new business opportunities in the sustainability sector, leveraging industry connections and market knowledge.
  3. Whole Life Carbon Assessments and Sustainability Reporting: Conduct comprehensive whole life carbon assessments and sustainability reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  4. Circular Economy Principles: Promote and integrate Circular Economy principles into client projects, driving innovation and reducing environmental impact.
  5. Team Management: Build and manage a team of sustainability consultants, providing staff development, training, and mentoring to ensure high performance and continuous improvement.
  6. Networking and Representation: Develop and maintain a strong network and standing in the sustainability sector, representing the company at industry events and in professional networks.
  7. Client Collaboration: Collaborate with clients to provide tailored sustainability solutions, ensuring client satisfaction and loyalty.
  8. Project Management: Lead project management and delivery of consultancy services, directing resources, delegating activities, monitoring, and managing project budgets.
Requirements:
  1. Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Experience: Extensive experience in sustainability consulting, with a focus on Circular Economy, Whole-Life Carbon Assessments, and BREEAM.
  3. Network and Reputation: Strong network and reputation in the sustainability sector, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality sustainability services.
  4. Leadership and Team Management: Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience of directing and managing multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure development projects.
  5. Delivering Sustainability Services: Significant experience of delivering energy, carbon, and sustainability consultancy and strategic advisory services.
  6. Policy and Regulatory Framework: Understanding of the UK, EU, and Ireland specific policy and regulatory framework relating to energy use, carbon emissions from, and sustainability of buildings.
  7. Communication and Project Director Skills: Excellent verbal and report writing skills, with project director skills, including programming, staff resource management, and budget management.
  8. Passion for Sustainability: Passion for sustainability and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the sustainability sector.
  9. Travel: Willingness to travel, with flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Skills:
  1. Line Management Duties: Interest in line management duties and staff mentoring, with experience of managing a team of sustainability consultants.
  2. Masterplan Schemes and Projects: Experience with masterplan schemes and projects with a diverse range of land uses, with a focus on sustainability and environmental impact.
