Parasitology Research Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lecturer/Reader in Parasitology to join our School of Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will lead and undertake world-class research in the area of Parasitology, leveraging their expertise to drive innovation and excellence in this field.
The School of Biological Sciences, in collaboration with the Institute of Global Food Security, offers a vibrant and integrated research and enterprise environment. Our team conducts globally competitive and sustainable research that addresses major challenges and develops solutions to global issues. We are internationally recognised for our world-leading research and have been ranked number 1 in the UK for research excellence in the UK REF 2021 (UoA 6).
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent productivity in the modelling and bioinformatics areas as they pertain to parasitology. This could include systems biology/informatics approaches to enhance understanding of parasite biology, evolution, or parasite-host interplay; or modelling approaches to inform human and/or animal parasite infections in a one health context. Queen's University Belfast is an exciting and productive environment for parasitology research, with access to cutting-edge infrastructure in molecular, genomic, proteomic, and metabolomics to underpin research.
In line with our ambitious strategy, the successful candidate will further enhance our excellence, enterprise, and reputation, and underpin our strategic commitment to interlinking teaching and research in the area of Parasitology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and lead independent, competitively funded research programmes in their field of expertise and contribute to teaching a variety of aspects of the curriculum. They will support the School and Institute in providing high-quality student support in line with our teaching and learning strategy, fully utilising digital innovative platforms.
About the Person:
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:
- Honours degree or equivalent in Parasitology or an area relevant to the job purpose.
- PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose.
- Completion of a PGCHET (or equivalent) or HEA membership.
- Research experience in the field of Parasitology, which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security.
- Record of high-quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals.
- Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding, including RCUK and other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes as Principal Investigator.
- Evidence of developing research methodologies, models, approaches, and techniques.

Fixed-term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
