Summary of the role
The University of Exeter is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join its Biological Research Facilities team as a BSU Manager / NAWCO. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of animal husbandry, biosecurity, and facility management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing one or more of the University's BSU facilities, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and compliance with relevant legislation. They will also be responsible for operational management, delivery of training, health and safety, facility maintenance, biosecurity, and security of their facility.
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of rodent housing systems, equipment, and BSU infrastructure and biosecurity. They will also be a competent PIL operative and will use this to support research in the facilities, including with competency assessments of PIL Holders and Animal Technicians with the NTCO.
The role holder will also hold the position of Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO) and will assist in ensuring that the requirements of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 are met and that the highest standards of animal welfare are maintained at all times within the facilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage one or more of the University's BSU facilities
- Ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and compliance with relevant legislation

Requirements
- Working knowledge of rodent housing systems, equipment, and BSU infrastructure and biosecurity
- Competent PIL operative
- Ability to form productive working relationships with other technical and professional services staff, stakeholders, and suppliers
