Job Summary

The Deputy Director Policy role is a key position within the Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, responsible for supporting the Ward Manager in the general management of the clinical environment. This includes ensuring a quality service is provided, overseeing a team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, and monitoring their professional development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical nursing expertise and supervision of all grades of staff within the department, ensuring a high standard of care is delivered.
  • Undertake and supervise the assessing, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, providing high standards of patient care at all times.
  • Use effective communication skills to support people in making decisions, planning care, or seeking to make positive changes to promote person-centred approaches in health and care.
  • Advise patients, relatives, and friends as appropriate on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
  • Assist the Ward Manager in monitoring and appraising the performance of staff within their sphere of responsibility.
  • Monitor, manage, and support the team during sickness absence episodes as outlined in the Sickness absence policy.
  • Assist the Ward Manager in monitoring the workload and skill mix, planning off-duty, and ensuring the department operates effectively and safely.
Requirements
  • Educated to Registered Nurse level 1.
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Completed NMC aligned Practice Assessor and Supervisor Development course.
  • Evidence of further study to Postgraduate level, or equivalent level of education, training, experience, or knowledge.
  • Experience of conducting appraisals, managing staff-related performance, and mentoring others.
  • Managing and supporting staff and patients through the complaints, compliments, and concerns processes.
  • Audit and research projects.
  • Competent in all aspects of medication management.

To be successful in this role, you will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be a registered nurse with a strong background in clinical governance and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care.
