Job Overview

We are seeking an 8B Clinical Psychologist to work within our Older Adults service across Liverpool and Sefton. The successful candidate will have the clinical skills and experience to enable them to work with older people living with a full range of mental health difficulties and dementia.

The post holder will join a team that are passionate about creatively working with older people and promoting their Rights. Opportunities for Continuing Professional Development will also be available, and the post holder will be encouraged to contribute to the professional development of other staff members.

Person Specification

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology.
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.

Skills

  • Ability to identify, provide, and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to identify and employ clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice.
  • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional, and academic settings.
  • Enthusiasm for a broad range of psychological approaches and interest in models of service delivery.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working with older people and people living with dementia.
  • Experience of teaching, training, and/or professional and clinical supervision.
  • Well-developed skills in communicating effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multidisciplinary care.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
