Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cost Manager to join our team. This role will involve delivering end-to-end cost management services to our clients, ensuring that their objectives are met through effective cost planning and control.

Main Responsibilities
  • To perform the role of Commission Manager, taking responsibility for service delivery from start to finish
  • To ensure client objectives are met through delivery of an effective cost management service
Scope and Impact

As a Senior Cost Manager, you will handle commissions of varying sizes, depending on project complexity. Typically, projects fall within the £10m to £50m range.

  • Coaching junior staff, including allocating roles and responsibilities for effective cost management on all projects
  • Advising clients on feasibility studies
  • Advising clients on procurement options
  • Managing estimating and cost planning stages, including presenting final cost plan to the client
  • Tendering and procuring, including managing pre-qualification stage, producing tender list, producing preliminaries, tender analysis, producing tender report, and compiling contractual documents, utilising relevant cost management tools and services
  • Conducting contract administration role, including dealing effectively with post-contract cost variances and change control processes, referring major changes to line manager where applicable
  • Taking personal responsibility for peer reviewing cost allowances and carrying out valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate cost checking and valuation takes place in all cases
  • Producing monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to the client
  • Negotiating and agreeing final accounts
  • Interfacing with client, Project Manager, and other consultants at all project stages
  • Working collaboratively with Turner & Townsend's project management team during project delivery
  • Where appropriate, leading cost management team, ensuring they deliver on all above accountabilities
  • Utilising full suite of bespoke digital cost management tools and services
  • Implementing Embodied Carbon Calculator, a bespoke carbon accounting tool, to produce carbon footprint reports
  • Supporting execution of NewLeaf strategy
  • Management of internal fees, internal job costing, and resourcing requirements
Key Performance Indicators

A Senior Cost Manager will be assessed by the extent to which:

  • Commissions are managed to right quality standards and completed efficiently and on time
  • Service delivery on commissions is in line with conditions of appointment
  • Good relationships are developed with clients and members of cross-functional team
  • Candidate works as effective member of cost management team, including where appropriate, taking effective responsibility for Assistant Cost Managers and Cost Managers
  • Opportunities are identified to develop new business with existing clients
  • Margins are kept track of on all commissions
  • Key information and data are effectively cascaded and appropriately retained

The estimated salary for this role is £80,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
