About the Role

The Maintenance and Facilities Specialist will play a key role in maintaining the functionality, safety, and appearance of New Spitalfields Market. As part of the Facilities and Environmental team, this position is responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks on market facilities, including regular checks and upkeep of essential equipment and systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation;
  • Respond promptly to any maintenance issues that arise, assessing and resolving faults or breakdowns in a timely and effective manner to minimize disruptions to market operations;
  • Carry out minor repairs, installations, or adjustments on market facilities as needed, such as fixing plumbing, lighting, or electrical fixtures;
  • Conduct routine inspections of the premises to identify potential maintenance needs or areas for improvement, reporting findings and initiating corrective actions;
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, logging completed tasks and reporting unresolved issues or further repair needs to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in general maintenance, repair work, or a similar facilities-related role; plumbing, electrical) are an advantage but not required;
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance work, with an ability to carry out basic repairs and troubleshooting;
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices, including the use of PPE, risk assessments, and safe handling of materials;
  • A competitive salary of £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
