About the Role

Sutton Council is seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the position of Strategic Finance Business Partner in its shared finance service with Kingston Council. The role will focus on supporting the Adults Social Care unit within the council's People Services directorate.

This key role supports budget managers by providing financial expertise, guidance, and strategic advice. The primary focus will be on revenue management, but elements of the capital programme may also fall within their remit.

  • Delivering financial support to budget managers, including planning, budgets, financial management, and monitoring.
  • Supporting budget managers in fulfilling their financial responsibilities.
  • Providing critical analysis and insights to ensure forecasts and financial modeling are robust and realistic.
  • Assisting in the Better Care Fund financial administration.
  • Reviewing service databases to create valuable analysis and insights.
  • Completing statutory returns and ad hoc requests for information.

This role is part of the Financial Planning and Business Partnering team that supports Sutton Council only, within the shared finance service. The team has 17 positions that combine to deliver revenue and capital financial planning and business partnering services.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience providing high-quality business partner support to budget managers in a large organisation.
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIPFA, CIMA, MBA) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment, achieving successful outcomes in delivering services that meet customer needs.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to provide detailed and accurate information at pace.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing, with the ability to discuss, analyse, and present finance concepts and processes.

It is desirable that candidates have experience supporting adults social care services in a local authority.
