About Our Client
Michael Page (UK) is working with a large government organisation to find a skilled Database Developer / Data Engineer to support their data transformation and data analytics enhancement programme.
Job Description
The successful candidate will work in a team to support analysts in generating new insights and reports in Power BI, while collaborating with the IT function on their journey to transition to MS Azure.
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of new business intelligence capabilities in line with the organisation's analytics strategy and vision.
- Provide access to data sources, build and maintain semantic access layers to support the analytical community.
- Work on data transformation from SAP Business Objects to MS Power BI, with further adoption of the MS Stack leading to Azure Cloud Transformation in the future.
- Utilise SSIS / ETL tools to create access to new data sets for analytics in Power BI.
- Capture and translate business requirements into specifications, then implement appropriate data access to allow analysts to create the required reports and dashboards.
- Adhere to IT change processes, acting as a conduit between IT and strategy, planning, and insight.
- Work with others to develop and document domain knowledge of key systems in support of maximising the value of the data available.
- Collaborate with the data management function to understand and remediate data quality issues.
Key Skills / Experience:
- A degree, or equivalent in a relevant field.
- A solid understanding of business intelligence toolsets, and how they fit into end-to-end data infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, SSIS (or similar ETL tools) and Power BI.
- Data literacy.
- Knowledge of logical and physical data modelling concepts.
- Understanding of data integration issues (validation and cleaning), familiarity with complex data and structures.
- Hands-on development of BI tools and development of analytical products.
- Experience of data warehousing solutions would be an advantage.
