Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Research Fellow to join our Breast Unit team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting and developing clinical research in the breast unit.
Main Duties
- Optional on-call cover for general surgery pro rata at SHO level, with no requirement for surgical operative experience.
- 50% of daytime activity to support breast clinical research, including consenting patients to trials, collating clinical data, and ensuring accurate follow-up data.
- Attendance at CRN research fellow development days to gain experience and become confident as a principal investigator.
- Development of clinical skills in the management of breast disease, with tailored educational needs according to career intentions.
- Clinical care of breast patients as required.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
- Provide care to emergency general surgery cases while on call.
- Provide support to the breast unit, including ward cover, assisting in theatre, and outpatients.
- Provide clinical expertise to cancer research nurses to ensure timely collation of clinical information on patients in trials.
- Support patients while recruiting to clinical trials.

Essential Criteria
- BM MBBS or equivalent.
- Completed Foundation training.
- Interest in breast disease management.
Desirable Criteria
- Research experience.
- GCP certification.

- Able to manage emergency surgical admission medical assessment and management.
- Good patient and peer communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
- CT training.
- Consent training.
