About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Highway Engineer to join our Transport Strategy Team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of engineers and technicians, overseeing highway approvals for major projects and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver sustainable growth and infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership: Supervise engineers and technicians, providing guidance and mentorship, and conducting performance reviews to ensure high standards.
  2. Highway Approvals: Manage technical approvals for highway works related to major projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  3. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with local planning authorities, developers, and public stakeholders, representing the Highway Authority in meetings and on-site consultations.
  4. Legal Agreements: Advise on Section 38 and 278 Highways Act agreements, ensuring compliance with layout, drainage, and construction standards.
  5. Health & Safety: Ensure that all designs comply with CDM, Health and Safety legislation, and project standards.

Requirements:

  1. Degree (NVQ Level 6) or equivalent experience in Engineering.
  2. Incorporated or Chartered Engineer, or equivalent experience.
  3. Proven experience in highway design and knowledge of Section 38 and 278 agreements.

  2. Skilled communicator, able to explain technical issues clearly to a diverse audience.
  3. Collaborative and resilient, with the ability to navigate complex and sometimes contentious situations.

  1. Expertise in legal, policy, and technical aspects of planning and highway engineering.
  2. Proficiency in software like Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
