Project Engineer (Design)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team in designing and developing deliverable projects up to 11kV/33kV. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning and designing the district distribution network, ensuring system stewardship, network security, and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage connection requests and provide quotations, ensuring regulatory and licence requirements are met.
  • Agree scope, volumes, and unit costs to exploit best value from the regulatory contract.
  • Integrate asset stewardship values through sound engineering principles, coordinated planning, design, and ownership to improve integrity, safety, and longevity of the electrical network.
  • Manage 3rd party 'Point Of Connection' and design approvals activities within the SPM and SPD licence areas.
  • Drive continual performance improvement through analysis of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources.
  • Consider the application of innovative solutions to all designs, whether technological, procedural, or commercial.
  • Produce designs in accordance with unit or authorised prime costs to enable efficient delivery of outputs.
  • Develop and maintain robust stakeholder and customer relationships on behalf of Scottish Power to facilitate delivery of customer and stakeholder strategic objectives.
  • Promote an exemplary safety culture and ensure that all safety legislation is implemented and delivered through all activities and incorporated into project designs.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of design standards up to 33kV.
  • Expert knowledge of the regulatory environment, including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
  • General commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service, efficient network design, and maximum return on investment.
  • Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to determine optimal solutions.
  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which Scottish Power is operating.
  • Technical and operational experience in a relevant engineering role.
  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
  • Developed skills with network analysis modelling tools.
