Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mathematics Educator to join our team at Acorn Training. As a Mathematics Educator, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning sessions, workshops, and tutorials in mathematics to adult learners.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and interactive mathematics lessons, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques and materials to enhance learners' understanding and engagement with the subject.
- Assess learners' mathematics abilities and identify areas for improvement, tailoring teaching and learning methods and resources accordingly.
- Develop and deliver consistently high-quality teaching and learning sessions, workshops, and tutorials in line with the curriculum requirements and the needs of individual learners.
- Assessment and Feedback
- Set and mark assignments, tests, and examinations, providing constructive feedback to learners to support their learning and improvement.
- Rigorously monitor and track learners' progress, providing regular feedback and implementing strategies to address areas of weakness or underperformance.
- Support and Guidance
- Provide individualized support to learners, addressing their specific learning needs and challenges through one-on-one meetings and additional learning resources.
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, actively promoting learner participation, motivation, and confidence in mathematics.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with other team members to share best practices, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Communicate regularly with learners, employers, and relevant stakeholders to provide updates on progress, address concerns, and foster effective partnerships in support of learner success.
- Professional Development
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in mathematics education, curriculum changes, and teaching methodologies, continuously updating own knowledge and skills.
- Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of A-level or equivalent mathematics qualification (essential)
- Qualified teacher, e.g., Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS, or a commitment to obtain (essential)
- Minimum of GCSE Grade C/4 in English and mathematics (essential)
- Full, clean driving license (essential)
- Level 5 Numeracy Specialist qualification (desirable)
- Level 2 IT user qualification (desirable)
- Skills and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of the Functional Skills mathematics curriculum and assessment requirements (essential)
- Excellent understanding of teaching methodologies and strategies for supporting diverse learners (essential)
- Familiarity with assessment practices and methods for tracking learner progress (essential)
- Knowledge of Safeguarding, GDPR, and Equality and Diversity in education (essential)
- Knowledge of the GCSE mathematics curriculum (desirable)
- Awareness of current educational policies and initiatives impacting mathematics education (desirable)
- Personal Qualities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with learners and create a positive learning environment (essential)
- Patient, adaptable, and able to differentiate teaching and learning to meet individual learner needs (essential)
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to plan and deliver sessions effectively (essential)
