Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Space Intelligence Ltd Full time
Senior Machine Learning Scientist Opportunity

We are a fast-growing, Series A NatureTech company on a mission to enable zero deforestation and degradation by producing high-quality nature mapping data and insights products.

Data is at the heart of our operations. We process large volumes of satellite data and analyze it within a machine learning framework to produce valuable nature mapping products for our clients.

Our products are trusted by developers and investors in nature-based solutions, including prominent companies such as Apple and Climate Asset Management.

This role is part of our Science team, reporting directly to our Head of Mapping and Carbon Science. The key focus of this position is to lead the production of landcover and forest carbon maps from remote sensing data and forest inventory plots.

This will involve directing the work of a small team of data scientists, data analysts, and ecologists, and collaborating with other team leads who will be leading similar teams producing maps for other clients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing on-the-job training to improve the skills of less experienced team members.
  • Leading the creation of satellite-based landcover or forest carbon stock maps and projects, interpreting results, and presenting findings.
  • Improving our models to create high-quality maps.
  • Selecting appropriate machine learning methods and using them to train models that capture relationships between remote sensing data and specific land characteristics.
  • Reviewing maps to achieve high quality.
  • Communicating with and presenting results to clients, including regular meetings during and at the end of a project.

We offer a competitive salary of £85,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience, along with a range of benefits, including 33 holiday days per year, an extra day off for your birthday, and a good pension plan offering salary sacrifice for tax efficiency.

We value work-life balance and support flexible working arrangements. Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK to be considered for this position.
