About Project Seagrass

Project Seagrass is a charitable organisation dedicated to reversing the loss of seagrass ecosystems globally. Our mission is to communicate science, evidence, and practice in seagrass conservation and restoration to support societal change.

We seek a Senior Science Officer to join our team in Scotland, leading our operations and delivering our 10-year strategy. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to research, fieldwork, and team guidance, with a focus on seagrass site assessments, surveys, and planting trials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research linked to restoration activities, including data gathering, analysis, and presentation.
  • Provide scientific leadership to seagrass site assessments and surveys.
  • Lead new seagrass planting trials and analyse data from current trials.
  • Contribute to organisational matters to ensure smooth operations.
  • Stay informed of developments in the field and maintain best-practice protocols.
  • Promote equality and diversity in working practices and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and sustainability policies and management systems.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate degree in Marine Biology or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years professional or post-graduate experience in consultancy or research.
  • Experience in designing research and writing applications for external funding.
  • Ability to demonstrate independence in research focus and direction.
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing technical and/or research reports.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of UK scientific diving and/or professional boat driving.
  • Evidence of active engagement in research publishing and volunteering.
