We create captivating stories that have inspired over ten million readers worldwide to see themselves as the heroes of their own tales. Our focus is on producing exceptional picture books for children and families.

This role involves working closely with a core team of Producers, Designers, Writers, Illustrators, Art Directors, and Coordinators to develop our book concepts. We collaborate with renowned Artists and Writers from around the world to bring our stories to life.

The Senior Picture Book Designer will be responsible for overseeing all design aspects of our books, from conceptual underpinnings to storyboarding, composition, layout, and typography, as well as character design for personalization.

This hybrid role involves working three days a week in our vibrant studios in Bloomsbury. You can expect a varied and dynamic work environment with frequent collaboration with writers and artists.

About the Role
  • Presentation of Design Updates at weekly Creative Reviews
  • Feedback sessions with Artists on storyboards
  • Receiving feedback on your work from Producers and Art Directors
  • Creating Character Design Briefs for new Artists
  • Developing range of cover propositions for books in development
  • Laying manuscripts to page
  • Briefing Designers on test approaches to name presentation
  • Briefing Artworkers on personalization requirements
  • Briefing Engineers on typesetting names using image-based lettering
  • Briefing Lettering Artists on custom typefaces

You will also participate in running in-house Design Workshops, contributing to Creative Sprints, and collaborating with Agents on future commissions.

Requirements:

  • Mid to Senior level Picture Book Designer with 3-5 years experience
  • Experience leading Design projects and mentoring Junior Designers
  • Deep understanding of Visual Storytelling principles
  • Innovative design and typography portfolio demonstrating expertise in various illustrated book formats
  • Strong contextual communication skills with an adaptable approach
  • Comfortable receiving and delivering feedback
  • Able to work effectively with multiple collaborators across various projects
  • Ambitious in design work and capable of leading others
  • Flexible in working independently or as part of a team
  • Ahead of the curve in leveraging technology in book design
