Taxation Specialist

The position of Senior Tax Accountant is available at Smith Schafer & Associates Ltd., a reputable CPA firm in Minnesota. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, providing coaching and training to junior accountants, and working closely with managers and principals to assist clients with tax planning and financial statement preparation.

You will have the opportunity to organize and manage client assignments and projects, prioritize workflows, and manage multiple deadlines. This role requires a strong understanding of current tax and accounting software applications and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

• Prepare and lead the preparation of individual and business tax returns.
• Complete initial review and prepare complex tax returns.
• Provide leadership and training for staff and entry-level accountants and seasonal interns.
• Assist with tax planning and lead specific assigned projects.
• Prepare/review compiled financial statements.
• Work in a team environment with principals, managers, and staff.
• Understand and effectively use current tax and accounting software applications when completing engagements.
• Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Start to identify areas of specialization.
• Research technical tax issues.
• Engage in learning about the Firm's business development efforts.
• Professionally represent the Firm at assigned business and community functions.
• Participate in industry niches.
• Participate in professional, charitable, and/or civic organizations.
