Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Services Manager to join our team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. As a key member of our pathology department, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our laboratory services.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead our laboratory services team. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of high-quality diagnostic services to patients across our trust. This includes managing staff, coordinating training programs, and implementing quality assurance schemes.

You will work closely with our Department Manager to develop and implement strategies to improve our laboratory services, including the development of new techniques, equipment, and working practices. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining accurate records, interpreting complex results, and authorizing reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and monitor staff in the performance of routine and specialized diagnostic services.
  • Design and plan departmental rotas, allocate work schedules, and determine work priorities.
  • Support the Department Manager in planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating the pathology service.
  • Record, validate, and interpret results, and authorize individual reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO/CPA standards, MHRA requirements, HTA regulations, and HSE requirements.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory management, with experience in leading teams and implementing quality improvement initiatives. They will also possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels.

A completion of IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent is required for this role. A level 7 qualification (MSc. IBMS HSD or equivalent) is essential for a Band 7 Section Manager post. Applications are also invited from candidates who are working towards this qualification.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is estimated to be around £55,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
