Job Title: Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

Location: In Northampton

The role of the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is to champion safety, health, and environmental management on site. This involves promoting a positive safety culture by actively developing and implementing effective safety practices.

This specialist will be responsible for acting as the business expert on all health and safety matters, ensuring that employer liability claims are monitored and managed. The key contact with enforcement bodies and response services will also be handled by this individual.

A key focus of this role is the continuous development and improvement of the site's and business's safety and environmental management system. This includes the implementation and monitoring of site health and safety policies and procedures to reduce accident frequencies and improve environmental performance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and maintaining UK safety standards across the site and regular liaison with group functions.
  • Carrying out regular audits and plant inspections as appropriate, with the management and employee representatives concerned.
  • Ensuring that necessary budgets are available and spent on health and safety requirements.

About the Role:

  • Prior experience in management or head of SHE roles within food manufacturing working alongside senior functional leaders is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety law and proven track record of implementation and maintenance of these processes to ensure compliance.
  • Expert knowledge of best practices, industry standards, and implementation of these with a clear understanding of how to tap into industry-wide best practices.
  • Good knowledge of environmental/sustainability practices with the ability to adopt and implement.
  • Understanding of local government departments and the ability to proactively engage to develop good working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • NEBOSH and Health and Safety qualifications are required.
  • Agile thinking and behaviours are essential.

Estimated Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum

Bonus: Performance-based bonus scheme
