Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Freight Management Coordinator to join our Global Freight Management team at JD Sports. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the administration and shipping duties required by the Global Freight team.

About the Role

  • You will assist in the planning and tracking of shipments for UK and European distribution, as well as work with international Joint Venture teams to organize their shipment of own-brand products.
  • You will be accountable for tracking shipments from ex-factory through to on-time receipt at the warehouse.
  • You will have responsibility for planning shipments, costs, and timelines.
  • You will work closely with freight forwarders to maximize container fill and minimize dwell times.
  • You will establish excellent working relationships with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and freight forwarders, liaising with them to ensure goods are shipped in a timely manner, minimizing delays by optimizing modes of transport.
  • You will support the development of and creation of reporting on the current shipment status and highlight any potential issues.
  • You will monitor performance of factories, forwarders, and hauliers, optimizing on-time, in-full deliveries.
  • You will be responsible for airfreight costing and coordination of transport.
  • You will develop and complete transit shipping reports using different software sources – ensuring system functionality and full end-to-end visibility.
  • You will communicate transport/transit issues to relevant teams, escalating issues promptly where required.
  • You will manage timely and accurate freight invoice sign-off.
  • You will be accountable for the continued development, tracking, and improvements in KPIs.
  • You will be responsible for raising supplier claims.
  • You will execute tasks with a constant focus on continuous improvement, both on targets achieved and processes/systems used for delivery, identifying opportunities.
  • You will support ongoing refresh of SOPs, along with annual tender activity and delivery of transformation projects such as new system enhancements and integrations.
  • You will support the development of carbon emission reporting for freight movements, working to ensure these are minimized.
  • You will keep up to date with all import procedures, including duties incurred and customs requirements.

  • You will have knowledge of import and export processes, including shipping processes.
  • You will have awareness of the importance of accurate classifications, with knowledge on the complexities required for customs classification of goods.
  • You will have experience working in a retail environment.
  • You will have experience working in an office admin role.
