About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a motivated and passionate Psychology Graduate to work as a Teaching Assistant on a 1:1 and small-group basis with students in Sheffield.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students, helping them with their academic progress and personal development.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers and SENCOs to support individual students with specific learning needs, including behavioral and emotional challenges.
  • Assist in the implementation of personalized learning plans to help students achieve their educational goals.
  • Support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, using your psychology knowledge to understand their behaviors and needs.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and encouraged to engage.
  • Provide targeted support during lessons and assist in managing classroom dynamics to ensure students stay focused and on task.
  • Track students' progress and report back to teaching staff, contributing to the adjustment of learning strategies as needed.
  • Help with planning and delivering tailored interventions to boost students' confidence and learning.
  • Assist in the development of resources and materials to support learners' educational needs.
Requirements
  • A degree in Psychology or a related field, with a strong interest in applying psychological principles to education.
  • A passion for working with children and young people, particularly those who may have additional learning needs or face emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • A patient and empathetic approach, with the ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities.
  • The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, supporting the wider school environment.
  • Previous experience in a classroom or working with young people (desirable but not essential).
  • A desire to pursue a career in education, with an interest in potentially moving into a teaching or support role in the future.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
