Laboratory Associate Practitioner

To work in a laboratory setting, assisting in the examination of clinical samples to determine laboratory diagnosis and appropriate treatment of infections. The role involves carrying out bacteriological, serological, or molecular diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a registered Biomedical Scientist.
The post holder will work with senior staff and support staff in the Microbiology & Blood Sciences Laboratory to produce a timely, high-quality, accurate, and cost-effective service. Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out bacteriological or molecular diagnostic procedures as deemed applicable.
- Working together with senior staff and support staff to produce a high-quality service.
- Acting as an Audit Officer under the direction of the laboratory Quality Manager.
- Assisting in the basic competence assessment and subsequent NVQ training for ATO staff.
- Developing an understanding of and being involved in the quality assurance programmes of the Department.
The ideal candidate will have a foundation degree in Biomedical Science or a related subject, with proven knowledge of Health & Safety issues, patient confidentiality, and quality management systems. They will also have basic keyboard skills and computer literacy, as well as manual dexterity and good hand-to-eye coordination.
This is a laboratory support post with all activity being supervised by an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. The post holder will be required to work in a team environment and be able to prioritize work under supervision.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the recruitment process.
