About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Optometrist to join our team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialist Optometrist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality eye care services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist optometric services to patients of all ages, including complex cases and those with varying degrees of visual disability.
  • Work closely with the Head of Department to deliver a comprehensive range of specialist optometric services.
  • Lead clinician for at least one specific optometric service, such as contact lens service, low vision service, or ultrasound biometry.
  • Coordinate and ensure the appropriate deployment of staff and evaluate service delivery.
  • Undertake clinical audit and research as agreed with the Head of Optometry Department.
  • Provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for various disciplines within ophthalmology.
Requirements
  • Registered as an Optometrist with the General Optical Council.
  • Specialist knowledge across a range of optometric procedures and practices.
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner and be a source of clinical expertise for junior staff.
  • Physical ability to move major clinical equipment and perform frequent concentration.
  • Ability to work with patients, carers, and colleagues in highly distressing or emotional circumstances.
