Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Ophthalmic Assistant to join our small, friendly team at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in the day-to-day service delivery within the department, assisting patients with visual impairments and supporting clinical procedures. The post holder will have the opportunity to learn new skills and develop their knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Prepare clinical areas for patient consultations and ensure all necessary equipment is available.
  2. Discuss imaging procedures with patients, obtain consent, and perform diagnostic tests as required.
  3. Assist trained nursing staff with various tasks, including cleaning equipment and maintaining accurate medical records.
  4. Support the efficient running of the department, contributing to good working practices and development.
Person Specification
  • Must hold a valid driving license.
  • GCSE grade C or equivalent in key skills level 2 or functional skills level 2 numeracy and literacy.
  • Computer literate with basic ECDL skills.
  • Experience working with people who have a visual impairment.
  • Good communication skills and experience dealing with the general public.
