International GCSE English as a Second Language Examiner

Role Overview:

An International GCSE English as a Second Language (2023 Specification) Examiner assesses candidates' responses in accordance with the pre-defined mark scheme, adhering to conditions of recognition and examination procedures. Most subjects will be marked onscreen, which can be done from home. A high level of subject knowledge is necessary to apply the mark scheme. Each examiner will receive an agreed allocation of scripts.

Responsibilities:

  1. To mark accurately and consistently to ensure overall standards are maintained.
  2. To submit samples to your Team Leader at designated times.
  3. To ensure milestones for marking are adhered to.
  4. To ensure all administration is completed as specified.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL:

  1. You will have one academic year's worth of teaching experience within the last 8 years, within the relevant qualification and subject, since qualifying as a teacher.
  2. You will have a degree or equivalent.
  3. You will be a qualified teacher.

DESIRABLE:

  1. You will have the ability to work well under pressure.
  2. You will have the ability to meet deadlines.
  3. You will have a high level of subject knowledge in order to apply the mark scheme.

Additional Information:

The examination period is between May and July. All new examiners will receive training, and a short training session will be available before marking begins. All of this can be done from home and in examiners' own time. Support from senior examiners will be available to all markers throughout the marking period.
