We are seeking a highly skilled Band 6 Nurse to join our team at the Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS) at the Central Health Clinic. As a Nurse Consultant in Sexual Health, you will be responsible for providing a full range of nursing skills within the PAS, including patient consultations, ultrasound scanning, informal counselling, sexual health screening, and giving contraception advice.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide confidential and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including the use of Fraser Guidelines.
  • Administer and/or issue prescribed medication as appropriate, following NMC professional guidelines and working from PGDs or Non-Medical Prescribing as necessary.
  • Use professional judgement to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues, adhering to NMC, Trust, and Directorate policies and procedures.
  • Perform testing, obtain swabs and specimens as required, and provide advice and information to patients regarding cervical cytology.
  • Provide health promotion relevant to patient needs and promote sexual health, advising on the transmission of sexually transmitted infections and ways to reduce risks.
  • Perform ultrasound scanning to confirm pregnancy and gestation, following in-house training.
  • Participate in and run nurse-led clinics, using professional judgement to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues or other agencies.

Requirements
  • Interest in and commitment to providing safe abortion care.
  • Relevant post-registration nursing or Midwifery experience.
  • Up-to-date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health/contraception/abortion/Gynaecological service.
  • Experience of instruction and assessing in clinical practice, including supporting students and new staff members.
  • Experience of working with all age groups, genders, and sexualities.
  • Experience of safeguarding patients.
  • Experience of leading or managing a team.
  • Ultrasound scanning experience in the first and second trimester.
Education and Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse/1st Level Registration.
  • Current NMC Registration.
  • Qualification in Teaching, Assessing, and Mentoring.
  • Recognised Contraception and Sexual Health Course (Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare).
  • FSRH Letter of Competence in Insertion and removal of Subdermal Implants (SDI).

  • Demonstrates a non-judgemental attitude.
  • A good team player.
  • Willingness to complete in-house USS training programme if not completed elsewhere.
Public Sector Language Competency
  • Ability to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard.
