**Job Summary**

Shropshire Wildlife Trust is seeking a highly skilled Species Recovery Officer to lead and expand our species recovery workstream. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in achieving our objective of having nature in recovery, with abundant and diverse wildlife thriving in wilder landscapes.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Manage a range of farm-based conservation projects, including the Great Crested Newt District Level Licensing (GCN DLL) scheme and the "Wild Highways" scheme, working in partnership with farmer cluster groups and private businesses to deliver habitat connectivity at landscape scale for Hazel Dormouse.
  • Identify new opportunities and develop additional species recovery or reintroduction projects that might include water vole, white stork, crane, osprey, and beavers, seeking out and securing complementary funding from a variety of sources.
  • Negotiate and persuade tactfully to secure positive environmental outcomes on farms and private land, and apply for funding or grants.
  • Have ecological knowledge of a range of species with at least one specialism, and a good understanding of relevant legislation in respect to nature conservation, agricultural regulations, and health and safety.

  • Experience in surveying and monitoring a range of species.
  • An ability to negotiate and persuade tactfully to secure positive environmental outcomes on farms and private land.
  • Experience of applying for funding or grants.
