Fibre Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Fibre Engineer to join our team at Digital Waffle. As a Fibre Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining fibre-optic networks to deliver high-speed internet, voice, and video services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Plan FTTH Network Architecture: Develop and implement fibre-optic network designs, including fibre cable layout, OLT placement, and ONU distribution.
  • Procure and Select FTTH Networking Equipment: Source and procure the necessary FTTH networking equipment and materials to ensure optimal network performance.
  • Perform Capacity Planning: Conduct capacity planning to meet the current and future demands of residential subscribers.
  • Oversee Installation and Quality Check: Supervise and quality-check the installation of fibre-optic cables and associated hardware.
  • Conduct Optical Testing: Perform OTDR testing to ensure connections meet performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Network Issues: Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure high levels of uptime and reliability.
  • Maintain Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to FTTH networks.
  • Collaborate with Vendors: Work with equipment vendors and suppliers to source necessary hardware and materials.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer technical support to customers, assisting with complex technical issues as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Proven experience in designing and implementing FTTH networks, with a strong focus on residential deployments.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of fibre-optic technology, including fibre types, optical splitters, and related equipment.
  • Skills: Proficiency in network design and capacity planning, strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Project Management: Project management experience is a plus.
