Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chef Team Leader to join our Retail Catering department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and cooking of nutritionally balanced meals to the highest standards for our diverse customer base.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have previous supervisory experience in a high-volume kitchen and a passion for cooking excellence and innovation. You will lead by example, ensuring impeccable food quality, safety, and presentation, and will be responsible for preparing breakfast and lunch menus, managing a live cooking environment, and inspiring your team to excel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook, and present all food to a consistent high standard for all retail outlets.
  • Liaise with the chef manager, deputy retail catering manager, and retail catering manager to ensure the food is always to the high standard in presentation and portion controls.
  • Prepare and cook modified diets if required.
  • Ensure all food is displayed well and the correct meal offer is available throughout service at all times.
  • Lead and assist with the meal service provision and associated duties, ensuring meal times are adhered to.
  • Have a scheduled workplan within the kitchen and adjust own working patterns to meet the demands of the business where necessary.
  • Involvement with planning and costings of menus, providing information on nutrition, allergen, and healthy diet options.
  • Manage food safety across all the outlets and ensure all staff are following the correct food hygiene procedures.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Self-motivating and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a patient, organised, and friendly demeanor.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Good customer care skills and people management skills.
  • Significant experience working in a similar environment, with IT literacy in Microsoft applications and working knowledge of catering ordering systems.
  • An understanding of allergens and special dietary requirements, with previous experience of stock management and ordering.
