Main Responsibilities

The Careers Consultant will be the primary contact for careers support and advice at their campus, working collaboratively with the wider team to deliver a national service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with employers, industry professionals, and professional bodies.
  • Delivering online and face-to-face workshops to groups of students and through one-to-one appointments.
  • Managing and delivering bespoke careers programmes, such as the GBS Mentoring Scheme and Employability Award.
  • Creating and developing a range of printed and online guides on industry sectors and employability skills.
  • Supporting the Careers and Employability Placement Officers to deliver pre-placement preparation workshops.
  • Assisting employers in promoting job opportunities within GBS to students through online platforms and targeted emails.
  • Working in partnership with other Careers Consultants to deliver a national service and collaborate on career-related workshops and events.
  • Contributing to the development of careers education sessions and workshops within the curriculum.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognised professional qualification at degree or higher degree level in a relevant discipline.
  • Previous experience of working within a HE or Careers Service setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively.
  • An understanding of challenges faced by adult learners and returners to education.
  • Experience of delivering one-to-one appointments, workshop design, and delivery to large and small groups.
  • Effective networking and negotiating skills.
  • A commitment to keeping informed of current labour market trends.
