The Apprentice Leisure Operations Manager role at Brighton College is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team. As a key member of the sport and science facilities department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our leisure facilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to all users, creating a welcoming environment that promotes a positive experience.
- Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for users, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Assist the Duty Manager with daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, to ensure seamless facility management.
- Collaborate with other team members to deliver consistent, high-quality service to users, fostering a positive team culture.
- Set up and clear away timetabled sessions promptly, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Supervise pupil activities, guaranteeing a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
- Lifeguard the swimming pool, maintaining a safe environment and adhering to lifeguarding protocols.
- Perform cleaning duties as required, contributing to achieving the highest standards of presentation.
- Familiarize yourself with the College's Health & Safety Policy and its application to all site facilities.
- Complete any reasonable management requests, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to learn.
Qualifications and Requirements
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
- Level 3 Pool Plant Operator Certificate.
- First Aid at Work.
- Level 2 Functional Skills (English & Maths), if required.

- Customer-focused with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
- Self-motivated and organized, able to work effectively unsupervised.
- Interest and/or background in swimming or sports, with a strong desire to learn and grow.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on providing clear information to users.
- Motivated to achieve new qualifications and develop your skills and knowledge.
Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate can expect a salary of £10 per hour for the first 12 months, followed by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage dependant on age thereafter. Additionally, you will enjoy 30 hours of work per week, with opportunities for overtime, and 23 days of holiday plus bank holidays.
