About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Pharmacist to lead our Paediatric and Neonatal services. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services to our Paediatric and Neonatal units, developing and evaluating clinical pharmacy services to meet the needs of the speciality, and providing a framework for the safe, effective and economic use of medicine resources within the specialist clinical area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of clinical pharmacy services to the Paediatric and Neonatal units.
  • Develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to meet the needs of the speciality within the Families Division.
  • Provide a framework for the safe, effective and economic use of medicine resources within the specialist clinical area utilising sound medicines management and clinical governance principles.
  • Develop and maintain highly specialist knowledge in medicines used in the treatment of children and neonates, and be a resource for the department/Trust within the specialist clinical pharmacy area.
  • Ensure a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service is provided in line with service objectives.
  • Monitor, audit and evaluate clinical pharmacy service provision to the specialist area and provide regular feedback.
  • Contribute to the Antimicrobial stewardship programme at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals under the direction of the Lead Pharmacist Antimicrobials.
  • Prescribe in line with Trust policies and procedures (Subject to necessary qualification).

Person Specification

  • Vocational master's degree in pharmacy.
  • 12 months pre-registration training and experience.
  • Registered with the GPhC.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Previous paediatric or neonatal pharmacy experience and expertise.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge - maintains a broad level of pharmacy practice.
  • Knowledge of neonatal nutrition and the technical aspects of TPN provision.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability in problem solving.
  • Ability to organise and motivate oneself and others efficiently.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safe pharmacy practice.
  • Evaluates quality of own work.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Applies sound professional judgement to legal and ethical issues.
